If you are traveling in Ticino with a van, motorhome or camper and are looking for an uncomplicated but well-thought-out overnight accommodation, you should remember the Monte Ceneri parking space.
We originally only wanted to stay one night. We ended up staying two because we were immediately captivated by the place. The location is ideal—right between Locarno, Ascona, Lugano, and the Italian border. Perfect for a quick stopover or as a starting point for excursions in all directions.

What is allowed?
All four-wheeled vehicles with their own sleeping area are permitted. Motorhomes, campervans, and similar vehicles are welcome. However, caravans, tents, and open fires are not permitted. The latter is for good reason, as Ticino is often at high risk of forest fires in summer.
Check-in is straightforward: Lift the barrier, take a ticket, and pay upon exit. It's like a parking garage, only with a nicer view.

Our experience
We found a shady spot on the edge and slept surprisingly peacefully despite the proximity to the main road and the military barracks. Our Tourne Mobil is well insulated, which certainly helps—but even without top-notch insulation, it's likely to be pleasantly quiet for many.
There are no sanitary facilities here. That's the only real downside. The campsite is clearly aimed at self-sufficient travelers with their own toilet and shower on board. No problem for us – we're well-equipped and enjoy independent travel.
There is everything else you need:
There are power connections (6 and 13 amps) – included in the price, but we didn't need one.
Garbage can be disposed of separately.
There's a chemical toilet emptying station and a greywater disposal point —both in good condition. Thanks to Clesana, we didn't need them, but it's good to know they're there.
Fresh water can be refilled.
Free Wi-Fi is available.
The area is illuminated and video monitored – giving a good feeling of security.
There is even a charging station for e-bikes right in front of the site – ideal for anyone who has conquered Monte Ceneri by bike.
Opposite is a gas station with a small shop that offers snacks and drinks as well as many Italian delicacies.
There is a small playground for children .
And dog poop bag dispensers are available for dog owners.
Price and conclusion
We paid just under 26 Swiss francs for one night, which we consider very fair. Of course, this isn't a campsite with a pool and restaurant. But that's precisely what makes the place so charming. If you don't want to camp wild but still want some peace and quiet, this is a very good alternative.
Our conclusion: We would come back anytime. Simple, clean, well located – and ideal for those who travel independently.
